Transport authorities in Hyderabad have launched a city-wide safety drive to inspect school vehicles, focusing on compliance with mandated safety norms and documentation requirements. The initiative aims to enhance student safety and prevent the operation of unfit or unauthorized vehicles used for school transport.
Officials from the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) said inspections are being carried out across multiple zones, covering school buses, vans, and other vehicles engaged in transporting students. The checks include verification of vehicle fitness certificates, driver licenses, insurance coverage, and adherence to prescribed safety standards.
Authorities noted that particular attention is being given to the presence of safety features such as emergency exits, speed governors, first-aid kits, and proper seating arrangements. Drivers are also being screened for valid permits and prior traffic violations to ensure safe driving practices.
The safety drive follows concerns raised over overcrowding, poor vehicle maintenance, and lapses in compliance in some school transport services. Officials said action would be taken against vehicles found violating norms, including fines, suspension of permits, or removal from service where required.
Parents and school managements have been urged to cooperate with transport officials and ensure that vehicles used for student transport meet all regulatory requirements. The RTA stated that inspections will continue periodically to maintain safety standards throughout the academic year.
Officials from the Telangana Transport Department said inspections would continue to ensure student safety across the city.
