The National Lok Adalat held at the Civil Court premises in Buxar on March 14, 2026, marked a major step toward speedy justice as hundreds of disputes were resolved through mutual settlement. The event saw active participation from judicial officers, district officials, and members of the legal community, including Vindeshwary Prasad Pandey, General Secretary of Civil Court Buxar, who played an important role in supporting the organization and coordination of the proceedings.

According to official reports, 1708 cases were successfully resolved during the Lok Adalat, with settlement agreements totaling approximately ₹14.75 crore. The large-scale resolution of cases reflects the effectiveness of Lok Adalat proceedings in reducing court backlog while ensuring faster access to justice for citizens.

Lok Adalat: A Fast and Efficient Justice Mechanism

Lok Adalats are organized under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, with the goal of providing quick and affordable justice by encouraging disputing parties to reach amicable settlements. These courts allow cases to be resolved without the lengthy procedures of traditional trials, helping both the judiciary and the public save time and resources.

In Buxar, several categories of disputes were addressed during the Lok Adalat session. These included bank loan recovery cases, traffic challans, electricity bill disputes, matrimonial cases, and other civil matters. Many litigants who had been waiting for years for resolution were able to settle their disputes on the same day.

A significant portion of the settlements came from bank-related recovery cases, which contributed the largest share of the total compromise amount. The initiative also helped clear numerous pending cases related to public utilities and minor offenses.

Participation of Judicial Officers and Civil Court Representatives

The event was successfully organized under the leadership of the district judge. The program was inaugurated by District & Sessions Judge Kajal Jhamb, with the presence of Family Court Principal Judge Manoj Kumar, District Magistrate Sahila, and Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya.

Several members of the legal fraternity and court administration also attended the proceedings. Among them, Vindeshwary Prasad Pandey, General Secretary of Civil Court Buxar, was present during the event and contributed to the coordination of activities related to the Lok Adalat proceedings.

The presence of senior judicial officers and experienced members of the court administration ensured that the settlement process was carried out smoothly and efficiently. Officials emphasized that cooperation between legal professionals and court administration plays a crucial role in making Lok Adalat initiatives successful.

Nine Benches Constituted for Case Resolution

To handle the large number of cases efficiently, nine benches were constituted during the Lok Adalat session. Each bench focused on different categories of disputes, ensuring that settlements could be reached quickly.

The proceedings began in the morning and continued throughout the day as litigants and advocates appeared before the benches. The atmosphere remained cooperative as both parties worked toward mutually acceptable resolutions.

For many families and individuals, the Lok Adalat provided immediate relief by resolving disputes that had been pending for a long time. Officials highlighted that such initiatives strengthen public trust in the judicial system while also reducing the burden on regular courts.

“The Civil Court campus in Buxar has recently hosted several important public awareness initiatives, including the International Women’s Day event in Buxar highlighting women’s role in society, which emphasized social participation and empowerment.”

Strengthening Access to Justice

The successful resolution of 1708 cases in a single day demonstrates the growing importance of Lok Adalat mechanisms in India’s judicial framework. By promoting negotiation and compromise, Lok Adalats help ensure that justice is delivered quickly, fairly, and without unnecessary legal expenses.

Events like the Buxar Lok Adalat also highlight the importance of cooperation between judicial authorities, district administration, and court officials such as Vindeshwary Prasad Pandey, General Secretary of Civil Court Buxar, whose involvement supports the smooth functioning of such large-scale initiatives.
